Robert Bailey Jr Joins “The Son In Law” Pilot
20th Television is currently developing a new single-camera comedy pilot called “The Son In Law”, which is going to star Reema Sampat, Meera Simhan, Anupam Kher, Evangeline Young and Chris Sullivan.
The show is about a salt-of-the-earth man, Jake (Sullivan), finds himself seeking the approval of his new fiancée Asha’s (Sampat) sophisticated parents, even as he is a difficult-to-impress father-in-law to his daughter’s longtime boyfriend.
According to Deadline, Robert Bailey Jr. has joined the cast of the pilot. He has previously starred in “Emergence” and “All American: Homecoming”.
In the pilot, Bailey will play Benjamin Green. He’s an EMT, a thoroughly nice guy. Benjamin is deeply in love with Jake’s daughter Charlie (Young), but he craves Jake’s approval and understandably is nervous about the way Jake will react to Charlie’s pregnancy and her plans to drop the idea of law school. Although Jake isn’t happy about the situation, he soon realizes that Benjamin’s intentions are honourable and sincere, though he’s not happy about becoming a grandpa when he’s getting ready to marry the much-younger Asha.
“The Son In Law” is being written and executive produced by Ajay Sahgal, with Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar also executive producing. With The Detective Agency producing the show with 20th Television.
Should this pilot be picked up for a full series, expect to see the show air on ABC and available on Hulu in the United States and released as a Star Original internationally.
