Disney+ Developing “Spy School” Series

Disney+ is continuing to build out its lineup of original programming with 20th Television working on a new series based on Stuart Gibbs‘ bestselling book series, “Spy School”.

The show tells the story of Ben Ripley, who may only be a teenager, but he’s already pegged his dream job: CIA or bust. Ben is not surprised when he is recruited for a magnet school with a focus on science — but he’s entirely shocked to discover that the school is a front for a CIA academy.

This new project is being created by Chris Fedak, who previously co-created “Chuck”, and will be writing the series, along with being an executive producer. Also involved in the project is Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort. Emma Watts will be a producer on the project. She has previously worked at 20th Century Fox, helping bring “Deadpool”, “X-Men” and “Avatar” to our screens.

There are currently 14 books in the “Spy School” series, which was originally released in 2012 and has sold more than 12 million copies.

No other details on the upcoming series have been revealed, such as who will star in it, when it’s going into production or when it’s likely to arrive on Disney+.

As with any project in development, these can take time to create and can go through many creative changes before they hit our screens.

Roger’s Take: Disney is constantly on the lookout for new projects to attract younger audiences, and they often look to popular book series as inspiration for new shows and films. With over 14 different books in the series, it offers the creators plenty of different stories to translate to the screen.
