Last November, it was revealed that the 20th Television animated series, “Praise Petey”, had been cancelled after one season. The show was released on Freeform and Hulu in the United States and was also released as a Star Original on Disney+ around the world.

The series followed Petey, a New York City “it” girl who has it all until her life comes crashing down around her. As luck would have it, a mysterious gift from her father gives her a new lease on life: She’s going to “lean into” modernizing his small-town cult.

However, just over three months after the cancellation of the show, “Praise Petey” has now been removed from Star+ in Latin America and from Disney+ in many countries around the world, including the UK, Canada and Australia.   Currently, “Praise Petey” is still showing up on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States, but it is now listed as leaving on March 1st 2024.

Over the past year, Disney has become ruthless with regard to the availability of cancelled shows, often removing them from platforms globally. Hundreds of titles have been removed from Disney+ and Star+ globally to help save over $2 billion dollars.

Anytime a show is cancelled. Unfortunately, the likelihood of it being removed drastically increased, but at least “Praise Petey” lasted a few months before the removal. However, this removal continues to bring into question some of the issues with streaming services, especially since most of these removed originals aren’t available on digital platforms or physical media to purchase, resulting in them often becoming unavailable.

Back when the show was cancelled, the “Praise Petey” creator Anna Drezen, who is a former head writer of “Saturday Night Live” and she took to social media to announce that the show has been cancelled after one season.

Sad to say Praise Petey will not be renewed at Freeform. I cannot believe we got to make this show. Best crew, best cast, top to bottom the dream of my life to make something this funny and unwell that went on actual television. I have heard that making a non-IP show during covid that premieres during a double strike in the dead of summer was not ideal for viewership. It’s still on Hulu as of right now, if you want to watch it you should do it soon. Thanks to everyone who watched and loved these characters as much as I did, and biggest thanks to Alex Jones and Charlie Kirk for bravely yelling about the show when the actors couldn’t. Will never forget you.

“Praise Petty” starred Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek”), John Cho (“Cowboy Bebop”), Kiersey Clemons (“The Flash”), Stephen Root (“Barry”), Amy Hill (“Magnum P.I.”) and Christine Baranski (“The Good Fight”).

Bandera Entertainment’s Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Dustin Davis, along with ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, and Monica Padrick (“Central Park”), served as executive producers on the show.
