Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” To Have About 100 Days In Cinemas!
Later this month, Disney is releasing the next movie from Pixar, “Inside Out 2”, which returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.
The new movie will be heading exclusively to cinemas on Friday, 14th June 2024, and if you are hoping the film will be hitting Disney+ during the summer, unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a little bit, as Bloomberg has revealed that Disney is so confident in the film that it will be getting a theatrical run of about 100 days.
And it’s important to note, this doesn’t mean the movie will leave theatres after that amount of time, and should the box office numbers be strong, it could easily be pushed back.
I’d also expect that once its theatrical exclusive window ends, “Inside Out 2” will be available to purchase on digital platforms for a month or longer before it heads to Disney+. This means it’s likely to be at least four months before it’s available to Disney+ subscribers.
While Disney recently rushed “The First Omen” to Hulu and digital platforms after two months, with Disney’s major titles like “Wish”, “Elemental” and “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of The Destiny”, we’ve seen Disney hold off on sending films to Disney+ to try to recoup as much money as possible and ideally make a profit.
Other studios often rush their films to digital platforms, with Universal Studios recently making waves for releasing “The Fall Guy” on home video after just 17 days. Disney has held off doing this for its major titles as it tries to “retrain” audiences to return to cinemas and not wait so they can return to the pre-pandemic days of having bigger box office runs. The days of animated movies like “Lightyear” or “Encanto” arriving on Disney+ after four to six weeks are long behind Disney and something they only did during the pandemic era.
“Inside Out 2” stars Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Tony Hale and Liza Lapira. It was directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen.
Roger’s Take: It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see “Inside Out 2” getting at least three months in cinemas before it hits digital platforms, since Disney is trying to make more money and especially with Pixar films, they know rushing films straight to Disney+ constantly is hurting them in the long run, even if many of us subscribers like to watch new movies as quickly as possible!
