This past Friday, Walt Disney Studios released a brand new film, “Peter Pan & Wendy,” on Disney+, which is a live-action reimagining of the animated classic, that introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Never Land. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.

Samba TV has revealed on social media that 762,000 US households watched the film over the weekend and it was heavily watched by younger viewers in the Gen-Z and millennial categories.

Were you one of the 762k US households to catch the premiere of #PeterPanAndWendy over the weekend? The movie had Gen Z households and millennial households over-indexing on viewership of the remake.

It’s important to note that this data is only from Samba TV, so it will vary from Disney’s own data and only represents the United States, so that the global viewership will be much higher.  Over the weekend, the film also managed to grab the top spot in the trending chart.

In contrast, recently, the new Amazon series, “The Citadel”, was watched by 761,000 US households over the first four days and “The Mandalorian” season three finale was watched by 662,000 US households.    “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was watched by 2.1 million US households over its first five days, showing how a theatrical release can help boost viewership.

The film stars Jude Law (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”), Alexander Molony (“The Reluctant Landlord”), Ever Anderson (“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”), Yara Shahidi (“Grown-ish”), Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering (“A Discovery of Witches”), Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker (“House of Cards”), Alan Tudyk (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”), and Jim Gaffigan (“The Jim Gaffigan Show”).

“Peter Pan and Wendy” is directed by David Lowery from a screenplay by David Lowery & Toby Halbrooks (“The Green Knight”) based on the novel by J. M. Barrie and the animated film “Peter Pan.” The producer is Jim Whitaker (“Pete’s Dragon”), with Adam Borba (“A Wrinkle in Time”), Thomas M. Hammel (“Thor: Ragnarok”), and Toby Halbrooks serving as executive producers.
