Following on from the huge success of the revival of the classic 90s animated series, “X-Men”, which was released on Disney+ earlier this year, it’s been revealed that “X-Men ’97” has been renewed for a third season.

Marvel Animation’s “X-Men’97” revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

Deadline has revealed that Matthew Chauncey has been brought onto the project to write the third season, taking over from Beau DeMayo, who wrote the first and second seasons but was removed from the project just days before the premiere of the first episode’s release on Disney+.   Matthew has previously worked on the Disney+ Original Marvel series, “What If? and “Ms Marvel”.

It’s also been revealed that director Jake Castorena, will be returning for the third season, along with Larry Houston and Eric and Julia Lewald, who were executive producers on the original “X-Men: The Animated Series“, who will remain on the project as consultants.

The second season of “X-Men” is currently in production and is having some of its scripts being revised, while the third season is now in development.

When “X-Men ’97” debuted on Disney+ in March, it pulled in over 4 million views within its first five days on Disney+, with 3.5 million tuning in for the season finale.

The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.

Roger’s Take:  It’s not a huge surprise to see Marvel wants to continue making new episodes of “X-Men ’97”.  The original series was a huge success, and the viewing figures on Disney+ make it one of the most-watched new animated series, so it’s a win-win for everyone.
