Disney+ Renews “Alice & Steve” For A Second Season

Earlier this year, Disney released a brand-new British comedy series on Hulu and Disney+ called “Alice & Steve”, which tells the story of how Alice is devastated when her best friend Steve starts dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy. She’s going to lose her best friend and her daughter in one fell swoop. Alice tries everything she can to end the relationship. Unfortunately for her, Steve’s more than ready for the attack, and what begins as a perfect friendship, devolves into an all-out feud.

Today, Disney has announced that it has ordered a second season of “Alice and Steve”, following three award wins at the CANNESERIES and plenty of online discussion about a cliff-hanger ending.

“Alice and Steve” has been created and written by Sophie Goodhart, who said in a statement regarding the renewal:

“I am so thrilled that ‘Alice and Steve’ has been given a second season.  No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve.”

Petra Fried, Joint Managing Director, Clerkenwell Films, added:

‘We absolutely love ‘Alice and Steve’ – both the show and of course the two characters at the heart of Sophie’s brilliantly messy, funny and fearless exploration of friendship and love. We’re thrilled to be bringing it back for a second season and can’t wait for audiences to see what Sophie has in store for our favourite frenemies.”

With Lee Mason, VP, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA, adding:

“It’s been fantastic to see the rapturous reactions to ‘Alice and Steve’ from viewers at home. Sophie has created a distinctive and original comedy, striking a chord and sparking debate with audiences across the country. I’m excited to see what mayhem Sophie and Clerkenwell have in store for our titular characters after that delicious cliffhanger – but we can expect more laughs, betrayal, and bad decisions in season two.”

“Alice and Steve” is executive produced by Petra Fried, Sophie Gardiner and Wim de Greef with Co-Executive Producer, Rachael Stephenson for Clerkenwell Films, part of BBC Studios, and was commissioned by Lee Mason, VP, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA.

The first season of “Alice and Steve” is available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in the UK and around the world.

Roger’s Take: Getting a second season of any comedy show at the moment is a good sign, as Disney often cuts these types of shows off before they can get enough attention.  Hopefully, with the news that the show is returning, more people will check out this funny British show.
