It’s been over two years since Disney released the first “Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation” on Disney+, “Werewolf By Night”, which told the story of what happened on a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster. Inspired by horror films of the 1930s and 1940s, the chilling special aims to evoke a sense of dread and the macabre, with plenty of suspense and scares along the way as we explore a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney has announced that the special’s director, Michael Giacchino, has written a brand new comic book called “Werewolf By Night: Blood Moon Rise”.

The new comic book spotlights what makes Werewolf By Night such a captivating Marvel icon, with over fifty years of comics history – and a hundred times as many bodies in his wake! In addition to Giacchino’s story that pits the tortured hero against Dracula, the one-shot will also have a backup story by Jason Loo, writer of the current Werewolf By Night: Red Band comic series, celebrating the character’s history and future along with various bonus material.

Michael Giacchino said in a statement regarding the new comic book:

“It could be a lost story from the original run, in a way.  There’s a fun twist to it that I think is going to be really interesting for people who are into Jack Russell and that lore.”

This new comic book will be released on July 30th, and it will also have a backup story by current Werewolf By Night writer, Jason Loo.

Roger’s Take:  It’s an interesting move to see the special’s director continue his desire to tell more stories about the character and while it appears that we might not necessarily see the character on our screens again or a for a while longer, at least the director can tell a new story in a different medium.  Maybe this could also potentially be an idea that Michael brings to our screens in another Disney+ special.
