During Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday” actor announcement, it was revealed that Tom Hiddleston would be returning after appearing in previous “Thor” and “Avengers” movies, along with two seasons of his own series, “Loki”.

The Disney+ series was originally being used as the setup to the “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” film, as the storyline saw the introduction of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) and helped to flesh out Kang as a major threat to the universe following the character’s debut in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania“.

In the season finale of “Loki”, it’s revealed that Loki has pulled together all the different timelines into a multiverse tree, with Loki himself at the center, keeping all the different multiverses alive while sitting on a new throne, making it look like Norse mythology’s, Yggdrasil, the World Tree.

However, during the making of “Loki”, Jonathan Majors was arrested for assault, and the actor was fired, with Marvel completely reworking its plans for the next pair of “Avengers” films to wrap up the Multiverse sage, resulting in “Kang Dynasty” being renamed “Doomsday” and Robert Downey Jr being revealed as the main villain, Doctor Doom.

During a recent interview with ComicBook, Tom Hiddleston, he revealed how the actor is looking forward to returning to the role:

“[I’m] very, very excited.  It’s really remarkable that I can talk about it because mostly I’m in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything … it’s been an extraordinary chapter of my life playing Loki, and it’s not over yet.”

Also set to return for the new film will be Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Florence Pugh (Yelena).  There will also be some characters from the “X-Men” movies, including Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

Roger’s Take:  One of the benefits of the Marvel’s casting announcement for “Doomsday” is that many of the actors involved can at least acknowledge they are going to be involved, but obviously they aren’t going to say a thing about the movie before it comes out, since Marvel likes to keep things secret.

The ending of “Loki” was a major setup to the upcoming “Avengers” movies, since Loki is now trying to keep all of the multiverses alive, though it’ll be interesting to see how they can explain what’s happened to the general audience who might not have seen it.   But it’s likely Loki’s actions are the reason why there is more than the sacred timeline, resulting in the threat of Doctor Doom to the universe.
