One of the biggest Disney+ Originals of 2024 was Marvel’s “Agatha All Along”, which saw the infamous Agatha Harkness find herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…

Ever since the show’s finale was released on Disney+, fans have been asking for a second season or for more information on when we might see more adventures of Agatha and Wiccan.

While Marvel Studios initially was creating single-season shows, similar to limited series (technically, due to many characters jumping around different shows and movies, they don’t qualify for limited series categories), in the past year or so, Marvel has changed its strategy to start looking at making shows with multiple seasons.

During a recent interview with EW to promote the new Disney+ series, Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel, gave a slight hint about a potential second season.

“I think it’s ‘linear series potential.  A show like Agatha, to me, is concept based. Yes, a second season for sure is something that we would want to do, but let’s not rush it. Let’s get the right idea and then make it.”

Recently, Patti LuPone revealed that there wouldn’t be a second season of “Agatha All Along”, saying that:

“Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season,’ and she said, ‘I don’t do second seasons.’  They wanted me to do a second season of WandaVision and I didn’t.  There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”

When pressed on Patti’s words, Brad Winderbaum playfully played dumb and said, “What’d she say?”

Kathryn Hahn teased during a red carpet event for an awards show that she was likely to return for an upcoming Disney+ series featuring Vision.

Roger’s Take:  It does feel like Marvel has been keen to extend the “WandaVision” story arc with shows like “Agatha All Along” and the upcoming Vision show, which are all interconnected.  While the ratings for “Agatha All Along” weren’t anything groundbreaking, it was able to get a positive buzz. Due to the budget being a quarter of many of the other Disney+ shows, since it was created more like a traditional TV show, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Agatha. Still, I’m doubtful, following the ending of “Agatha All Along”, if a second season would work.

Ultimately, the story has to be there to warrant a second season, and with Marvel drastically cutting back on its shows, it might not make the cut, though following the news that Marvel had paused three other shows, maybe making more of what’s working and not introducing more new characters, is exactly what the MCU needs.

“Agatha All Along” is available to stream on Disney+ now.
