The second season of “The Mysterious Benedict Society” is coming to Disney+ later this month, and I recently got the chance to speak with Marta Kessler & Mystic Inscho, who play Reynie and Constance, in the show.

In the second season, Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance, the four gifted orphans who were recruited by the eccentric Mr. Benedict, embark on another mission to save the world from the nefarious plans of his twin brother Dr. L.D. Curtain. When the kids discover that Mr. Benedict and Number Two have been kidnapped, they must piece together the riddles and clues within a perilous scavenger hunt set by Mr. Benedict to foil Curtain’s latest scheme. Relying on only their wits, intellect, and empathy, the charming group of misfits embark on a globe-trotting adventure by air, land, sea and pie truck, calling upon their special skills to solve the mysteries and rescue their lost comrades. Along the way, the kids experience the growing pains that come along with being part of their new “found family,” while remaining true to their unique selves. In the process, they discover what true happiness really means.

Do you feel under much more pressure with the second season than you did with the first one?

Mystic: Not too much, but there is definitely some pressure because there are established viewers for the first season and we have to make them happy and stay true to the book while going off from it in a way.

Marta: Yeah, there was a little bit of pressure, but I think the crew made us not feel the pressure. It just made us really… The crew always cheers us up and for me it wasn’t a lot of pressure, not at all.

What was the best part about filming the second season?

Mystic: There were a few. Being back together with the kids and schooling on set. We had a really fantastic teacher and it was always really fun. And there are a few scenes where Reynie shows a wider range of emotions, that was really fun to film. I can’t get into too much detail because it’d be a spoiler.

Marta: I had a lot of new experience because in second season Constance has a lot of changes and I can’t tell them because it’s going to be a spoiler, but you’re going to see it in season two. And yeah, as Mystic said, it was really fun to reunite with everybody and see everybody again after a year.

What was the worst thing about filming the second season?

Marta: There wasn’t a thing like that that I enjoyed the worst. I liked everything. I don’t think that there was something I didn’t like because the crew and everyone made us really happy and I liked everything.

Mystic: Yeah, mostly everything was great but Reynie had a sweater vest on all the time and we were filming in LA this season, so it was so hot. I was constantly sweating.

How did you feel when the first season came out, seeing everyone’s reaction?

Marta: I was a little bit nervous because I was interested how I was going to look, how was I acting? And then we watched the first episodes, and I actually really liked it. All of my classmates watched it too, and I really liked it too. So at first, I was a little bit nervous, but then I really liked it.

Mystic: Yeah, I was also kind of nervous. There were expectations, but it was great. I really enjoyed the show and like Marta said, my classmates as well, they watched it, and they said it’s really great too.

Did you get to do any stunts this time around?

Mystic: I did. Last season I did not get to at all, but this, I did and I’m really excited about that. I was jumping off a rope and all four of us, we were hanging on a rope and there was a blue screen below us and we were on harnesses and everything and that was really fun.

Marta: Oh yeah. For example, in season one I had pretty much stunts. I had a lot of stunts. But in season two I didn’t have many stunts. But we had a group stunt when we were together on a rope and we had those harnesses and we were really close to each other and we were always bumping into each other by accident. And Emmy, she even joked that she was never so close to us in her life because we’re really close to each other.

“The Mysterious Benedict Society” is returning to Disney+ on Wednesday, 26th October 2022, with new episodes being released weekly.  The first season is available to stream on Disney+ now.
