Kogonada & Alex Garcia Lopez To Direct Episodes Of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Disney+ Series
Production is currently underway in the United Kingdom on a new Star Wars series for Disney+ called “The Acolyte”, which is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.
The new series is going to star Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”), Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), Manny Jacinto (“Nine Perfect Strangers”), Dafne Keen (“His Dark Materials”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Rebecca Henderson (“Inventing Anna”), Charlie Barnett (“Russian Doll”), Dean-Charles Chapman (“1917”), Margarita Levieva (The Deuce”) and Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”).
From creator, showrunner and executive producer Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”), “The Acolyte” has begun production in the U.K. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing. Headland will also direct the series pilot.
According to Discussing Film, Kogonada and Alex Garcia Lopez are directing episodes of the upcoming show. Alex Garcia Lopez has previously directed episodes of many of the Netflix Marvel shows, including “Daredevil”, “The Punisher”, and “Luke Cage”. He has also directed episodes of Netflix’s “The Witcher”, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, and “Cowboy Bebop”. While, Kogonada has previously directed “Columbus”, “After Yang”, and “Pachinko”.
“The Acolyte” will stream exclusively on Disney+ and is expected to arrive on the streaming service in either 2023 or 2024. More details on the upcoming “Acolyte” series are expected to be revealed at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event, which is taking place in London, England over the Easter weekend.
