Disney has announced that the first season of a new animated series, “Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes”, will be coming to Disney+ in Canada on Wednesday 3rd April 2024.

This new preschool animated series follows Kiya’s high-action dance and martial arts adventures. She lives in the South-African-inspired Kimoja City with her two best friends, Jay and Motsie. Together, the three of them use their crystal-charged powers to shine bright and make things right until harmony and unity are restored in their community.

The new series was created by Hasbro’s eOne studio and it launched globally on Disney+, amongst other platforms, in 2023.  However, the series has taken a while to get released on Disney+ in Canada.

The characters for Kiya were created by Kelly Dillon and Marc Dey and then developed for television by Robert Vargas. The production features a diverse creative team, including writers, designers and composers from across Africa as well as France, the US and the UK. Kiya is one of eOne’s successful slate of preschool properties that also includes award-winning shows “Peppa Pig,” “PJ Masks,” “Ricky Zoom” and “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom.”
