Disney has announced that the sixth season of the National Geographic series, “Drain the Oceans”, is coming to Disney+ in the United States on Wednesday, 17th April 2024.

A global hit franchise, the series reveals the full scope of the shipwrecks, treasure, sunken cities, geology and technology at play on the floor of lakes, seas and oceans around the world, solving underwater riddles that have mystified generations. Ghostly shapes beneath the waves are exposed in all their stunning glory, as the water is removed from the picture to tell stories that explain natural wonders and man-made catastrophes. Combining the latest scientific data from underwater scanning systems with state-of-the-art digital recreations, this series crisscrosses the globe in search of slaves, pirates, American revolutionaries, heroic explorers, ancient cultures and world-changing battles; and it delves deep into the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the icy waters of the Baltic, the terrifying icescapes of the Arctic, the shoreline of one of America’s premier cities, the mysterious Nile delta, and the underwater graveyards of the American Civil War in its quest for answers.

The new episodes include:

  • Alaska – In the extreme north, in a wild land of untapped riches and where East meets West, the hunt for a legendary ghost ship in Alaska reveals a corner of the United States once known as “Russian America.” And after 150 years, new clues led to the graveyard of a tragic American fleet many believed would never be found.
  • Rise of the Mob – Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, the Five Families: The Mob took America by storm in the early 20th century. But where did their wealth and power come from? A New Jersey wreck full of whisky bottles reveals a criminal network; in the Detroit River, a 1920s truck proves international borders mean nothing to the Mob; and in Chicago, a floating speakeasy shows how politics and the underworld go hand in hand.
  • Secrets of the Dinosaurs – Paleontologists journey from Patagonia to Canada to overturn popular misconceptions about dinosaurs and uncover the real Jurassic Americas.
  • The Myth of the Pacific Pirate Ship – Fragments of porcelain and blocks of beeswax lead to a 250-year-old shipwreck and a forgotten trade route of vast cargo ships in the Pacific.
  • Invasion USA – An artist from Atlanta learns how her ancestor escaped from slavery during the War of 1812 and joined British enemy forces who ended up burning down the White House. Meanwhile, on one of the Chesapeake Bay’s tributaries, an amateur archaeologist makes the discovery of a lifetime when he tracks down the wreck of the American flagship, which led a doomed resistance force against the enemy.
  • $20 Million Time Bomb – One of the darkest crimes ever to take place on the high seas, the deliberate sinking of the Lucona kills half the crew on board. Meanwhile, the accused goes on the run to avoid conviction. Finding the ship is the only way to prove his guilt. The race is on to locate the world’s deepest crime scene and gather evidence before the guilty walk free.

The latest season aired on the National Geographic channel last year, but it has taken a while to come to Disney+.   The previous five seasons are available to stream now on Disney+.
