Disney has removed Fred Savage from the 20th Television series, “The Wonder Years” following multiple complaints of misconduct.

According to Deadline, the allegations were investigated and this led to the dismissal of Fred Savage as the show’s executive producer and director.  No other details about the allegations have been revealed, though it was reported that they included verbal outbursts and inappropriate behaviour.

A spokesperson for 20th Television told Deadline:

“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of The Wonder Years”

This isn’t the first time that there have been misconduct accusations against Fred Savage, as Alley Mills, who played Fred’s onscreen mother in the original “Wonder Years” series, revealed that following the cancellation of the original series, there was a “completely ridiculous sexual harassment suit” filed by a costumer against Savage (who was 16 at the time), that was settled out of court.

There was also another lawsuit against Fred Savage in 2018, when a crew member on “The Grinder.  At the time, Savage called the allegations “completely without merit and absolutely untrue”.  20th Television did an investigation into the claims and found no evidence of wrongdoing by Savage.  This lawsuit was settled out of court.

Inspired by the beloved award-winning series of the same name, “The Wonder Years” is an original coming-of-age comedy that tells the story of the Williams family during the late 1960s, all through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections of his past spotlight the ups and downs of growing up in a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, and the friendship, laughter and lessons along the way.

Disney hasn’t yet confirmed if the show has been picked up for a second season.

The first season of “The Wonder Years” was released on Hulu, Disney+ and ABC in the United States and as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.
