One of the most popular Star Wars series on Disney+ so far has been “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, which is set 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The series saw Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, having played the character in the prequel trilogy, which was released almost twenty-five years ago.

Ever since the season finale was released on Disney+, there has been a big question mark over the future of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, since the show was left open enough to let the character be explored again or just left alone until the events of the very first Star Wars film, “A New Hope”, picks up the story of Obi-Wan.

During a recent interview with Variety, Ewan McGregor was asked about the potential second season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and replied:

“I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney.”

It’s certainly great to hear that Ewan is open to returning to the role, especially since he had a bad experience with audiences and fans when the first movie came out (and that was in an era where social media didn’t exist).

But with Lucasfilm cutting back on how many series it creates for Disney+.  Since Disney has felt they’ve pushed too much content out over the past few years, and while there are multiple shows already filmed, including “The Acolyte”, “Skeleton Crew”, and the second season of “Andor”, plus there is more “Ahsoka” on the way.

Plus, with a push to focus on creating movies.  There are now over four films in development, including one set thousands of years before Skywalker Saga, one featuring Rey after the events of “The Rise Of Skywalker”, and two films set between the classic and sequel trilogy with characters from “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka”.

There doesn’t look like there is much opportunity for a new season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on the cards for years.

Obviously, in the meantime, we still have all the Star Wars films available to watch on Disney+, plus the recent “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series.
