At the D23 Expo in August, Disney officially confirmed that a new Star Wars series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, would be coming to Disney+.  The series will see Ewan McGregor return to the role that he played in the prequel trilogy.

During a recent interview with Men’s Journal, the actor spoke about the new Disney+ series, confirming that the series will have six one hour episodes.

He also confirmed:

“The storyline sits between Episode III and IV. […] the Jedi order was falling apart. It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him – Well, his arc will be quite interesting. I think, dealing with the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.”

While the new series was only confirmed in August, Ewan McGregor has known he would be returning to the role for a long time, as he said:

“It’s a f***ing massive relief [to talk about it]. Because for four years, I’ve been having to lie to people about it,”

Originally it was thought Obi-Wan would be getting his own “Star Wars Story” spinoff movie, like Rogue One and Solo, but with the poor box office reaction to Solo and the creation of Disney+, it looks like we had to wait a little longer for everything to line up.

Ewan McGregor also said in the interview that he couldn’t say much more since he’s “not allowed to tell you anything about” the show.

He added:

“I want to get closer and closer to how Obi-Wan felt while Alec Guinness was playing him. I feel like I’m grayer and nearer him in age, so it’ll be easier to do that.”

Production on the new series is set to begin in 2020, so probably won’t be hitting Disney+ until 2021.
