Back at the Investor’s Day in late 2020, Disney announced a number of new Star Wars projects for Disney+, including a new series called, “Lando”, which will see Donald Glover return as everyone’s favourite scoundrel Lando Calrissian, whom he played in the film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.

It’s been almost three years since that initial announcement, and the project hasn’t seemed to move on in development.  When asked about the show earlier this year at the Star Wars Celebration event in London over Easter, Lucasfilm President, Katheleen Kennedy said that they want to do the series, but Donald Glover is a busy person.   Recently, Donald Glover spoke with GQ about working on the new “Lando” show.

“I’m not interested in doing anything that is going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I would much rather spend time with people I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with. We’re talking about it. That as much as I can say.”

During the past few weeks, there have been several updates from Justin Simien, who was initially brought on to the project to write it.  Recently, the “Haunted Mansion” director told THR:

I am attached, I think, but I don’t really know. (Laughs.) The last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody’s availability. I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot. I’m not alone in that experience. But I can’t help but wonder, “Am I too Black? Am I too queer? And people just don’t want to say that?” Because it seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown.

Following that recent interviews, THR has now confirmed a report by Above the Line, that Justin Simien is no longer attached to the “Lando” Disney+ series and instead, Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, signed on to write the series earlier this year, prior to the strikes beginning in May.   Donald and Stephen have previously written together on the hit FX series, “Atlanta” and “Swarm”.

With the strikes still underway and with Disney slowing down on how many Star Wars projects it has in development, it might be a while longer until we get any further updates on this new Disney+ show.

But while we wait, you can watch “Solo: A Star Wars Story” now on Disney+.
