Disney’s 20th Century Studios is in the early development of a sequel to the hit 2004 comedy film, “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” and will see Vince Vaughn return to star and will likely produce.

The original film is about an average guy who is out to save his gym by participating in a dodgeball championship. His debts, along with his misfit friends, prove to be quite a headache.

Very little is known about the sequel, but the general idea is that it will continue the story of Vaughn’s prize-winning gym owner.

According to Deadline, the script for the film is going to be written by Jordan VanDina, who has previously worked on “The Binge”. It’s not yet clear if Rawson Marshall Thurber, who wrote and directed the original film, will be returning to work on the project. Back in 2021, Rawson spoke to Deadline and addressed the idea of returning:

“You know what — never say never. I never thought about Dodgeball as a series, but that actually might be fun,” he said. “I’m really proud of Dodgeball — it’s my first film and something people still really like it seems. I would say never say never, and it would have to be the right take on it. But yeah, maybe.”

“Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” is available to stream now on HBO Max in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
