Earlier this year, Disney announced that it had signed a wide-ranging overall deal with the creators and executive producers of Disney Channel’s “Big City Greens”, Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton.

One of the first major titles to be released as part of this deal was the first-ever full-length movie based on the popular Disney series, “Big City Greens”, which is called “Big City Greens: The Movie: Spacecation”, which was released on Disney+ this past Friday.

The film follows the Green family as they embark on an adventurous outer space-bound vacation. When thrill-seeker Cricket tricks his family into taking a “road trip” in space, chaos in the cosmos quickly ensues. Despite growing frustrations between Cricket and his dad, Bill, the two must learn to appreciate each other’s unique perspectives in order to prevent Big City from being destroyed by an interstellar disaster.

During an interview with Laughing Place, executive vice president of Disney TV Animation Meredith Roberts revealed that a spinoff series of “Big City Greens” was in the works.

“I think this is one of our potentially evergreen series.  We’re in business with the Houghtons for a very long time.  We want to do more episodes of this and a spinoff series, and anything that comes out of their heads is just going to be amazing. I can’t wait to see more Big City Greens series, but also what else they’ll create in the future.”

This project is likely still in its early stages of development since Disney hasn’t yet announced any more details on a “Big City Greens” spin-off, such as what characters might be shifted over to the new series or when it might be released.

Roger’s Take: With the success of “Big City Greens,” it makes sense to continue the franchise. It also gives the creators a chance to stretch their creative wings and do something a little different while benefiting from the franchise’s popularity.
