Bette Midler Teases “Hocus Pocus 3”
Just under two years ago, Disney finally released a sequel to the popular cult Halloween classic film, “Hocus Pocus” on Disney+ around the world, which went on to become a huge success for Disney+, as it was the biggest film premiere on Disney+ domestically to date, based on hours streamed in the first three days of its release.
The sequel is set 29 years after someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now, it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.
Both films star Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “Beaches”), Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City,” “Divorce”), and Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act,” “Younger”) as the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters.
Last year, it was revealed that Jen D’Angelo was working on a script for the film, explaining to Entertainment Weekly:
“We’re still in the story phase, we’re still working on it. We’ve been working on some ideas. It’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore. We’ve only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham’s Mother Witch.”
Bette Midler recently appeared on The Jess Cagle Show, where she teased that Disney is working on another sequel and she’s involved in the process.
“Now, they’re kind of talking about a third, very gingerly and very gently. They are. They’re talking about a third. The second one was a huge success.”
Roger’s Take: With the success of the last film, I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney tries to get this project off the ground as quickly as possible, though I’d guess another sequel is actually released in cinemas first, rather than straight to Disney+ to make more money for the company.
Both “Hocus Pocus” films are available to stream on Disney+.
