For Disney+ subscribers who use Roku 4 (model number 4400X) devices to access their favourite shows and films, unfortunately, this device will no longer support Disney+ from May 30th 2023.

Subscribers who use the Roku 4 devices are being notified with an on-screen message:

Disney+ will no longer be available on this Roku model after May 30 2023. To continue using the Disney+ app, along with all of its newest features and functionalities, please upgrade your device to a newer model.

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, since Roku 4 users recently received an email stating that Roku was pulling support for the device, since it was originally released back in 2015 and was discontinued at the end of 2016.

Dear Roku Streamer,

Thanks for being such a loyal Roku user! You’ve been streaming with us for a long time and we’re glad you’ve been enjoying your Roku player even after all these years. While your current player will continue to stream and receive critical updates, it doesn’t have the latest capabilities and will soon stop receiving feature updates.

You can keep using your Roku player to stream the channels you currently have. However, this device will no longer get new features or streaming channels, updates to existing channels, or other software-related updates. You may lose access to some channels over time as those channel partners make updates.

It’s likely other streaming platforms will also slowly stop working on these older devices, as support for the devices is removed and app development ceases, due to fewer people using them.

This follows the news that Disney+ subscribers who use a NOW Streaming device in the UK, will also no longer able to use Disney+ from the end of the month, since the devices run on the Roku system.

If you are using a Roku 4 device to access to Disney+, you may need to look into upgrading your device to a newer model or look to use another device you already own, like a Smart TV, or video game console.
