Disney has announced that it has promoted Matt Kalavsky to Senior Vice President and General Sales Manager, Domestic Theatrical Distribution, for Disney Entertainment. Matt will be taking over the role from Ken Caldwell, who will retire at the year’s end.

The role includes overseeing domestic distribution, which includes U.S. and Canada, for all of Disney’s studios, including Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. Another part of the role includes Cinema Partnerships team, non-theatrical sales and running the Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, which is where Disney holds many of its world premieres.

Tony Chambers, Executive Vice President and Head of Theatrical Distribution, said in a statement to Deadline:

“I’m absolutely delighted for Matt to take the domestic reins moving forward. For more than 20 years, Matt has been both a terrific leader and an invaluable partner to Ken, the entire Disney team and to the domestic exhibition community. Not only that, but he has played an instrumental role in helping Disney deliver some of the industry’s biggest box office successes of all time.”

Matt Kalavsky added:

“I am truly honored to lead this team of highly dedicated and talented individuals, who continue to do amazing work delivering Disney’s unrivaled film slate to audiences across the country.”

Matt has previously worked as the VP, Assistant General Sales Manager, Theatrical Distribution and worked on a number of Disney’s successes, including “Avatar: The Way of Water”, “Frozen”, “Avengers: Endgame” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Matt Kalavsky started working at Disney in 1999 and has held a number of roles in the company.
