Disney Executive Promises “Zootopa 2” Will Be Better Than The Original
Earlier this year, in Bob Iger’s first quarterly financial investors call since returning as Disney’s CEO, he revealed that Disney Animation was working on a sequel to the smash-hit film, “Zootopia”. Shortly after the initial announcement, Jared Bush confirmed he was writing the sequel.
This heartwarming comedy adventure is set in the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia. With habitat neighbourhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with fast-talking, scam-artist fox Nick Wilde to solve the mystery.
The original film was released in 2016 and went on to take over a billion dollars at the global box office. The film’s success has spawned a spin-off Disney+ shorts series called “Zootopia+” and an entire themed land at Disney Shanghai Resort.
Since the initial announcement a sequel was in development, we’ve heard very little about this upcoming sequel, but recently, while promoting the new Disney short, “Once Upon A Studio”, Disney’s Brad Simonsen shared an update with The Direct on the upcoming “Zootopia” sequel.
We’re all super excited about it. And it’s a world that I was part of the first movie, and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life, to be honest. And I know that this next one’s going to take it to another level and be, as you know, as good or better than the first. So we’re super excited about that project.”
Currently, nothing is known about the “Zootopia” sequel, such as what the story is about, who will be starring in the film, or when it will be released. Hopefully, the film’s original stars, Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, will return as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
With many of Disney’s latest animated films struggling at the box office, there will be lots of pressure on “Zootopia 2” to perform well, especially with the first film being so successful.
While we wait for “Zootopia 2”, we can catch the original movie and the Disney+ Original short series, “Zootopia+”, on Disney+ now.
