Disney is once again diving into its past for a new show, as Deadline has reported that Disney Branded Television has ordered a pilot for a new “Wizards Of Waverly Place” sequel series.

The original series was about the Russo family, who owned a restaurant and lived in New York. However, the father is a wizard while the children are in training. The child who masters the powers shall be given the family wand.

This series launched the career of Selena Gomez, who is going to return as an executive producer on the show and will also be making a guest appearance in the pilot. Also returning is David Henrie, who will be reprising the role of Justin Russo as a series regular.

The sequel series will pick up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult, Justin Russo, has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.

Janice LeAnn Brown, who starred in Disney’s “Just Roll With It”, will be playing the lead role of the powerful young wizard Billie, whom Justin takes under his wing. Also starring in the series will be Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), who will play Justin’s older son, Roman Russo and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess), who will play Justin’s wife, Giada.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will be the executive producers on the show and have previously brought back “That’s So Raven” with a sequel series called “Raven’s Home”.

As with all pilots, it might not necessarily make it to a full series, but if it does, we should expect to see the series on the Disney Channel and Disney+.

And while we wait for the new series, you can catch the original, plus the two movies, on Disney+ now.
