Disney Halts Production On “StuGo”
Earlier this year, Disney released a brand new animated series called “StuGo”, which follows six middle schoolers who get tricked into attending a fake academic summer camp by a mad scientist. What started as three months of learning transforms into an adventure of a lifetime on a tropical island filled with mind-reading manatees, giant fighting fungi and fashion-forward mutants.
However, it has been revealed that production on “StuGo” has been halted, and there will be no second season, aka it looks like it’s been cancelled after one season, similar to “Primos”, and “Hailey’s On It”.
The series premiered earlier this year on Disney Channel, and the season finale only recently aired, but it hasn’t even been released on Disney+ yet. With a second season no longer happening, I do wonder if the show will even get a Disney+ release. Initially, it was scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in the Spring, but that never happened. We’ve seen Disney write off shows in the past, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it never gets a Disney+ release, especially internationally. Unfortunately, when a show is cancelled, Disney doesn’t officially make any announcements. Instead, the teams move on to other projects.
Disney continues to struggle to get its new shows to connect with audiences and I can’t help but feel that Disney isn’t helping itself with its released schedule for shows like “StuGo”, where they premiere on the Disney Channel, but take months to be released on Disney+, since kids nowadays generally watch shows on streaming services, not on linear television channels. Disney seriously needs to adjust its release strategy to give shows like “StuGo” a better chance of connecting with younger audiences, going where they are, rather than trying to get them to tune in at a set time like it used to work decades ago.
