20th Century Studios Developing “The Marriage Bargain” Movie

Disney’s 20th Century Studios has picked up the movie rights to Jennifer Probst‘s bestselling romantic comedy novel, “The Marriage Bargain”.

According to the books description, it follows an impulsive bookstore owner, Alexa Maria McKenzie, who in order to save her family home, casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend’s older brother—the powerful man who once shattered her heart.

Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn’t believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father’s corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister’s childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he’s offers Alexa a bold proposition.

A marriage in name only with certain rules: Avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year so the rules shouldn’t be that hard to follow, right?

According to Deadline, the film will be adapted by Laura Lekkos, who has previously worked on MGM’s “Relationship Goals” and Netflix’s “Somewhere Only We Know”.

It will be produced by Sherryl Clark (The Gorge) and Entangled CEO and Publisher Liz Pelletier. It’ll be the first project to be created by Entangled Publishing new production company, Premeditated Productions. With Cayla Tyne overseeing the project for Premeditated, with Sarah Shepard, SVP of Production, overseeing for 20th Century Studios.

As with any project in early development, very little is known, such as who is directing it, who will star in it, or if it will be released in cinemas first, or directly onto Hulu/Disney+.
