During today’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Disney CEO Bob Iger reconfirmed that the brand new direct-to-consumer version of ESPN, which will include all of ESPN’s content, will be available through Disney+ in the United States when it launches in 2024 for Disney streaming bundle subscribers.

Bob Iger reconfirmed that this new streaming service will be fully integrated within Disney+, comparing it to how Hulu On Disney+, which launched last week, works.

While Disney does operate ESPN+ as its own streaming service, it doesn’t offer the full package of sports content that is shown on ESPN’s cable networks.  But the new ESPN app, will incorporate everything, though likely at a much higher price.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if ESPN+ were relaunched as this new platform, as having multiple ESPN sports apps will likely be confusing for customers.

The new ESPN on Disney+ will offer a wide selection of sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, as well as a host of college sports, plus all of the library and news content such as the “30 For 30” franchise.

This new ESPN streaming service is completely different from the upcoming sports streaming service, which is due to launch later this year.  The new separate sports service will see Disney team up with Warner Brothers Discovery and FOX to launch a cable light version of their sports channels in one package.  This new sports app is also going to be available as a bundle with Disney+ and Max.

No more details on ESPN On Disney+ have been announced yet, but with over a year until the new sports streaming service launches, it might be a while until we get more details.
