Last month, Disney released a brand new British three-part documentary series, “Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story”, on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and in many other countries around the world, plus on Hulu in the United States.

The series told the story of the social media scandal that captivated the nation and spawned a high court trial. British celebrity Coleen Rooney’s private Instagram stories about her and her family are being leaked to a newspaper without her knowledge, but Coleen will go to extraordinary lengths to find the culprit.

“Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story” has been a huge success for Disney+ in the UK, as according to some new data from the Barb via Deadline, the show helped push Disney+ to its highest audience reach in a year, since the Barb started releasing information about audience reach.

Netflix also had a similar boost from the success of its own football documentary series about David Beckham, which pushed Netflix as a whole, to reach 43 million viewers, while Disney+ hit 27.37 million viewers. For Netflix, this was also the best-performing month for reach in 2023.

The Barb calculates reach based on the number of UK viewers who have watched at least three consecutive minutes of a streaming service or linear network channel.

In October, Disney+ also had lots of other new shows that appealed to audiences, including the return of “Loki”, “The Kardashians”, and “Welcome To Wrexham”, all of which will have no doubt helped bring in viewers to Disney+, which is the third biggest streaming service in the UK.

Disney+ has been heavily promoting the “Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story” series across all media platforms, with advertising on television, print, radio, and beyond. With Coleen also appearing on many shows to talk about the series.

You can check out all three episodes of “Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story” on Disney+ in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.  The series is also available on Hulu in the United States.
