One of the biggest films of 2022 was “Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva”, which is set in modern-day India, against the premise of a secret society called the Brahmānsh; who, generation after generation, have protected many divine ‘Astras’ (weapons) that were created in ancient India, and safe-guarded from the eyes of the world. The most powerful and the deadliest amongst these divine weapons, the Lord of all the Other Astras – named after the most powerful weapon of the Gods, the Brahmāstra, is now waking up, and it threatens to completely destroy the universe we know today.

“Brahmāstra” – the Trilogy, is a three-part film franchise, and the beginning of India’s first original universe, The Astraverse. It is a new, original cinematic universe inspired by deeply rooted concepts and tales from Indian mythology but set in the modern world, with epic storytelling of fantasy, adventure, good vs. evil, love and hope; all told using cutting-edge technology and never-before-seen visual spectacles.

The film’s director Ayan Mukerji took to social media to share some details on parts two and part three:

April 4th, 2023
Hi 🙂
The Time has come for some updates on the Brahmāstra Trilogy, the Astraverse, and my Life!

After absorbing all the love and the feedback on Part One… I have been focused on creating the Vision for Part Two and Part Three – which I now know will be bigger and more ambitious than Part One!

I have learnt that we need a little more time to perfect the script of Brahmästra Two and Three!

And…
I have decided that we are going to make the two films… Together!

Allowing them to also release closer together!

I have a timeline in place to achieve this, which I am sharing with
you all today! *

I also have another piece of news to share…

The Universe has presented me with a very special opportunity recently – a very special movie – to step into and direct!
What the movie is… More on that when the time is right 🙂

An opportunity that challenges me and terribly excites me… one where I will learn, be inspired and where I will grow!
So, I have decided to take it up!! **

Opening myself up to all the positive energies in this universe so I my best and contribute to that one thing that matters most can do to me Indian Cinema!!

Love and Light,
Ayan.

The first sequel, “Brahmāstra: Part Two: Dev” is going to be released in cinemas in December 2026 and the third film, which hasn’t yet got a title, will be released in cinemas a year later in December 2027.  Filming both films at the same time will also be much more cost-effective for Disney, which is trying to reduce costs.

“Brahmāstra Part One,” is the story of Shiva – a young man and the protagonist, who is on the brink of an epic love, with a girl named Isha. But their world is turned upside down when Shiva learns that he has a mysterious connection to the Brahmāstra… and a great power within him that he doesn’t understand just yet – the power of Fire. In the movie, we follow Shiva’s adventures as he journeys into the world of Astras and in turn, discovers his destiny as the divine hero of the universe.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni. The movie is written and directed by Ayan Mukerji, and is produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Ayan Mukerji.

You can watch “Brahmāstra Part One” on Disney+ now.
