Andrew Stanton To Direct Pixar’s “Toy Story 5”
With “Toy Story” being one of the most popular franchises and after the failure of so many movies at the box office, it came as no surprise that one of the first major projects announced by Bob Iger when he returned as CEO after Bob Chapek was ousted, was that Pixar was working on the next instalment in the “Toy Story” franchise.
We’ve heard very little about a fifth “Toy Story” movie, except that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are turning as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. It was likely that the early announcement was mainly made to keep investors happy and to try to restore confidence in the Disney brand.
During a recent Q&A session after an early screening of the new Pixar film, “Inside Out 2”, Pixar CEO Pete Doctor revealed to the audience that Andrew Stanton would be directing the upcoming “Toy Story” movie.
Andrew Stanton has been working at Pixar since the original “Toy Story” movie, where he has worked on most of the Pixar films in some capacity, such as a writer or executive producer. He has also previously directed “Wall-E”, “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory”.
While we wait for the fifth “Toy Story” film to be released in cinemas on June 19th, 2026, you can find the previous movies, along with many short films on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: Andrew’s history of projects at Pixar is literally the majority of Pixar’s output over three decades, so bringing in Andrew Stanton seems like a smart choice to give “Toy Story” to someone who has lots of experience working on major titles and hopefully bring not just the franchise but also Pixar as a whole back into good times.
