We all know that Disney loves to go back into its archives to pull out established franchises and give them an update for a new generation, especially for Disney+.  Many revivals have been released on Disney+, such as “The Proud Family” and the upcoming “X-Men ’97” series.

And during an interview with Tenn Penn from earlier this year, “Doug” creator Jim Jinkins, revealed that he has been developing a new animated sequel series for “Doug”, called “Doug Kids”, which would be set today, with Doug now married to Patti Mayonnaise, who have their own kids, who would be the stars of the show.

The show’s creator was hesitant to share what he was working on, but revealed that the show is still in very early development, and it is unknown if it will be greenlighted or if it will actually happen.   A Disney executive suggested the idea to Jim, and it still might not necessarily happen, but as with many revivals, if there is enough interest online, it might boost the chances of this show happening.

Check out the full interview below:

The series follows Doug Funnie, who is a young boy who keeps a journal. In his hometown of Bluffington, he uses his imagination to navigate through tests of friendship, love, school, and growing up.

“Doug” originally aired on Nickelodeon in the early 1990s and ran for four seasons before being cancelled. Disney then purchased Jim Jinkins’s Jumbo Pictures and obtained the character’s trademark, resulting in three more seasons of the show and an animated film.  The three Disney seasons of “Doug”, along with the film, “Doug’s 1st Movie”, are available to stream on Disney+.
