Recently, it was revealed that “Beef” director Hikari, is going to be working on a new film called “Rental Family” for Disney’s Searchlight Pictures that follows a down-and-out actor living in Tokyo, who is hired as a token American guy for a Japanese rental family company, leading him on an unexpected journey of self-discovery through the roles he plays in other people’s lives.

According to Deadline, Brendan Fraser is going to star in the upcoming film.  He has patiently waited for the right project to come along since his Oscar win in “The Whale”.  Brendan can also currently be seen in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and has previously starred in “George Of The Jungle” and “The Mummy”.

Production on the movie is scheduled to begin in the spring in Tokyo, though no release date for the film has yet been announced.

The film has been in development by Hikari since 2019 and she has also co-written the film with Stephen Blahut, both of whom are executive producers on the project, along with Tomo Koizumi.

“Rental Family” will be produced by Shin Yamaguchi, Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev of Sight Unseen Productions. SVP of Production Taylor Friedman and Manager of Creative Affairs Daniel Yu will oversee the project for Searchlight Pictures.
