In the past few years, there have been many reports of a potential reboot or revival of “Scrubs” and it’s been confirmed that the show’s creator, Bill Lawrence is now developing a new version of “Scrubs”.

According to Deadline, It’s not yet clear if this will be a reboot or revival, nor has it been revealed if any of “Scrubs” cast are returning, nor if any producers, writers or directors are linked to the project.

20th Television is developing the project for ABC and is now apparently in talks with some of the cast of the original series, which includes Zach Braff (John “J.D.” Dorian), Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk), Judy Reyes (Carla Espinosa) and John C. McGinley (Perry Cox).

One of the biggest issues with this reboot/revival is that Bill Lawrence has an overall deal with Warner Brothers, so a deal had to be worked out to allow Bill to work on the project. Should the project get the go ahead as a full series, Bill won’t be working as the showrunner on it.

Earlier this year, Bill Lawrence spoke about how he was trying to get the new “Scrubs” project off the ground,

“I think it’s getting really close to being figured out, and I think in a good way. Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close.”

He also explained how he might want to approach the show.

“We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo. A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling. There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ — that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”

While the project is still in early development, it might be a while before production begins, should everything align. It will likely be a couple of years away from hitting our screens.

Every episode of “Scrubs” is available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.

Roger’s Take: I think a revival/reboot of “Scrubs” could work, as long as they move forward with the characters now almost fifteen years older and introduce new characters to make it feel fresh.
