20th Television is developing a brand new 10-episode drama series called “Interior Chinatown”, which is based on the 2020 bestseller of the same name. The creator, Charler Yu, will also be an executive producer, along with Taika Waititi, who will also direct the pilot episode.
In the new series, Jimmy O.Yang will be playing the role of Willis Wu, who is a background actor in a procedural cop show called Black & White. Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables and dreaming about a whole world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, and in the process discovers what it feels like to be in the spotlight. Jimmy O.Yang has previously starred in “Crazy Rich Asians“.
Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Elsie Choi, Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite, and Garrett Basch will also serve as executive producers on the show.
Hulu has given the project a series order, and since its a 20th Television production, we should expect to see the series released as a Star Original internationally on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.
