What Country Has The Most Disney+ Content In 2021?
Early last year, I wrote an article taking a look at how many shows and movies Disney+ had in different countries around the world from the initial launch of Disney+. So before the launch of Star internationally, I wanted to take a look to see how everything compares almost a year later. I also wanted to compare some of the countries that saw Disney+ launch later, including those in Latin America, Europe and Asia.
While the majority of content is identical around the globe, such as the Disney+ Originals such as “The Mandalorian”, “Soul” or “High School Musical: The Musical – The Series”, there are some regional differences.
Here is a look at the Disney+ content totals as of January 6th 2021:

The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands all gained roughly about 200 new titles since February 2020.
Disney+ Hotstar in India stands out as the biggest library, with almost 3000 titles available. This is due to a vast library of local original content that was part of Hotstar before Disney+ launched. It also has a lot of licensed shows from other networks including HBO.
Looking at just Disney+, Australia once again is the country with the biggest library of content available. With the closure of the Disney Channel in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, this has seen these countries get more shows from the Disney Channel quicker.
The United States has the biggest TV library of shows available. However, due to existing contracts, many 20th Century Studios movies aren’t available to Disney+ subscribers in the United States. Canada hasn’t been getting as many National Geographic shows due to existing contracts, which is why Canada has fewer shows available to subscribers.
Japan has the smallest Disney+ library, with barely a third of the number of movies and shows of Australia. However, Disney+ is set to relaunch later this year in Japan with Star content.
Before the UK got Disney+ in March, it had DisneyLife, which had only 572 titles available, (450 movies and 122 TV shows), so Disney+ has resulted in twice as many shows and movies being available in the UK since last year.
One thing that does stand out, is how close the Disney+ library sizes are globally, as the vast majority of content available, is identical around the world and every region has at least one title that no other country has.
Where do you watch Disney+? Let us know in the comments below:
Disney+ is getting better, but the other thing this article shows is the lack of local content apart from India. Disney needs to find a way to add local original content, as at by now, is super america centric, how to do that while at the same time remain "disney" remains to be seen.
I am watching from the Netherlands since the beta when in the Netherlands you could get two months for 1 cent.
I'm watching Disney+ from Denmark :)
