Last year, Disney’s 20th Television released a new series based on the classic 1990s action film, “True Lies”, which starred Steve Howey and Ginger Gonzaga in the roles that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis had played in the original film.

The series follows Harry, a first-class international spy for the U.S. intelligence agency Omega Sector, and his wife, Helen , a language professor bored with her daily routine, who makes the shocking discovery that her seemingly ordinary husband is leading an extraordinary double life. With the secret out, Omega recruits Helen, who impresses everyone with her formidable skills (thanks to Tae Bo and yoga), and she joins Harry and his team of top-notch operatives, embarking on covert missions around the globe and an exhilarating life of danger and adventure … all while keeping their adventures a secret from their three teenage children. The renewed bond between them adds much-needed sizzle to the Taskers’ emotionally distant marriage and upends the top-secret world of Omega Sector. But, as Harry says, if you’re going to save the world, you might as well do it for the ones you love.

“True Lies” had been in development for some time, but prior to its release, Disney decided to sell the show off to other networks in the United States, where it aired on CBS and Paramount+. It was also released as a Star Original on Disney+ in many countries, including the United Kingdom and Australia.

Shortly after the release of the series in the United States, it was revealed that the show had been cancelled and wouldn’t be returning for a second season, which personally hadn’t come as a huge surprise since Disney didn’t have enough faith in the project to keep it for its own streaming services.

Unfortunately, with the start of the new month, “True Lies” has been removed globally from Disney+. It is also no longer available on Paramount+ in the United States, but like Disney, Paramount has also been removing underperforming originals. This latest removal continues the trend of cancelled shows eventually being removed from streaming services to save money.

The good news is that the original “True Lies” movie is still available to stream on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Australia and Canada.
