Third “National Treasure” Film Still In Development
Filming is currently underway on a brand new series for Disney+, which is an expansion of the “National Treasure” movie franchise centred on a young heroine, Jess (played by Lisette Alexis), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
The series also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Billie, a badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert, along with Zuri Reed (“Flatbush Misdemeanors”) as Tasha, Jordan Rodrigues as Ethan (“Lady Bird”), Antonio Cipriano as Oren (“Jagged Little Pill” on Broadway”) and Jake Austin Walker (“Rectify”) as Liam – Jess’ friends whom she recruits to help uncover the truth about her parents and their connection to the treasure. Lyndon Smith (“Parenthood”) stars as FBI Agent Ross, who assists in the quest.
It was also recently announced that Justin Bartha, who played Riley in the first two films, is returning for the Disney+ series.
This new “National Treasure” series is being executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cormac & Marianne Wibberley, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed, alongside Rick Muirragui, who also serves as a writer. Jon Turteltaub is also an executive producer. Mira Nair is directing and executive producing.
During a recent AMA on Top Gun‘s Reddit account, a fan asked the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, whether he plans to work with Nicolas Cage any time soon, to which he replied:
“Absolutely. I love Nicolas, he’s a brilliant actor and we are currently working on a script for National Treasure.”
Development on the third “National Treasure” film has been underway for years, with the last update coming in 2020. So it could still be a while off, but it’s certainly interesting to see that development is still underway on this franchise.
The first two “National Treasure” films are available to watch now on Disney+.
