Disney+ Rolls Out New Playlists Feature Globally
Over the years, Disney+ has slowly made changes to give users more options, making the platform easier and more enjoyable to watch. Today, Disney+ has launched a brand new feature called Playlists, which brings together themed collections of episodes and movies into a continuous, lean-back viewing experience with full playback controls, making it easier to discover content and keep watching.
Instead of choosing titles one by one, subscribers can select a playlist carefully curated by genre, franchise, character, or mood. Whether they’re in the mood for Action and Adventure Movies, Romantic Comedies, and Pixar Movies or spending time with favourites like Mickey and Friends, Bluey, or Modern Family, Playlists take the work out of figuring out what to watch next while giving fans the freedom to pause, skip, and rewind at any time.
Seasonal playlists will also be available throughout the year, with themed and holiday-inspired collections for occasions like Halloween and beyond. Playlists also include general entertainment content, such as Horror, Stand-Up Comedy, Family Guy, and more.
This new feature makes it easier to spend less time searching and more time enjoying all Disney+ has to offer.
A couple of years ago, Disney+ introduced a “Streams” feature, which consisted of a limited number of channels showing a consistent stream of specific content. Following the release of the “Playlists” feature, all U.S. Disney+ subscribers will still have access to the previously launched 24/7 ABC News livestream as well as eight ABC Owned Television Stations’ local market streams featuring live, market-specific newscasts, weather updates, special community events and breaking news.
The new Playlists feature began rolling out globally today for all subscribers and is available on the homepage and across Disney+.
Roger’s Take: This feature has been a long time coming and continues to make small changes that make it easier for some people to find something to watch. Just flicking on the TV and picking a Playlist to keep you entertained, without putting much thought into that choice, can be really helpful to many people, especially if you want to put it on in the background or to keep younger audiences entertained. While this might not be a feature that I’d personally use, I’m glad to see this has now rolled out globally and continues to build Disney+ into the main entertainment hub it needs to be in order to compete with Netflix and Amazon. It’s not identical to the Streams feature used in the US, but it’s a good alternative for global subscribers.
