“The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives” Season 2 Becomes A Huge Hit For Hulu & Disney+
Last week, Disney released the second season of the hit reality series, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives”, which follows the scandalous world of a group of Mormon mom influencers implodes when they get caught in the midst of a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines. Now, their sisterhood is shook to its core. Faith, friendship and reputations are all on the line. Will #MomTok be able to survive and continue to give the rulebook a run for its money, or will this group fall from grace?
In the second season, the scandalous world of Mormon #MomTok is back and bigger than ever! When an original swinger from their infamous sex scandal makes a surprise return, friendships threaten to unravel as secrets, lies, and allegations explode. In a battle for the soul of #MomTok, will betrayal shatter the sisterhood, or will the truth set them free?
Disney has announced that the second season pulled in five million views across Hulu and Disney+ in the first five days around the world. The first season was also Hulu’s most-watched unscripted season premiere of 2024.
Unfortunately, Disney has a weird way of releasing viewership data for its hit shows. It doesn’t release this information for every new release and tends to change the length of time those views are measured over, making a direct comparison between shows harder to judge.
Recent new releases across Disney’s streaming platforms, such as “Star Wars: The Acolyte”, pulled in 11 million viewers in the first five days, while Pixar’s “Dream Productions” pulled in 5.6 million viewers in the first five days. These shows reach a very different audience, and “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” is also a very different (and cheaper) show to create.
Another recent series, more in line with the same audience, was the fifth season of “The Kardashians,” which pulled in 3.9 million views globally within its first four days across Hulu, Disney+, and Star+. Meanwhile, the “Paradise” finale drew in seven million views over nine days. Once again, this highlights the problem with Disney’s viewership data when trying to compare.
The series is produced by Jeff Jenkins Productions (‘Bling Empire,’ ‘The McBee Dynasty,’ ‘My Unorthodox Life’), in association with 3BMG and Walt Disney Television Alternative . Executive producers are Jeff Jenkins, Russell Jay-Staglik, Andrea Metz, Brandon Beck and Eric Monsky at Jeff Jenkins Productions, Ross Weintraub and Reinout Oerlemans at 3BMG, and Danielle Pistotnik, Georgia Berger, and Lisa Filipelli at Select Entertainment.
Both seasons of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
Roger’s Take: Without doubt, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” is a huge hit for Disney, as it only tends to reveal viewership data for its most popular shows. It’s likely we are going to see more adventures in the future and highlights why Disney is investing heavily in reality based shows, since they are pulling in viewers and at a fraction of the cost of the bigger drama shows.
