One of the many new Star Wars original series announced for Disney+ back at the Investor Day in 2020 was “Skeleton Crew”, which follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.

This new series stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter and Robert Timothy Smith, along with Jude Law.  Also starring in the series will be Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon. Jon Watts and Christopher Ford are showrunners and executive produce along with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Chris Buongiomo, Gilchrist and Beck serve as co-executive producers. John Bartnicki and Susan McNamara are producers. Directors include Watts, David Lowery, the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard and Lee Isaac Chung.

During a recent interview with PEOPLE, Jude Law shared how he and his younger cast are “all in constant state of confusion and jeopardy and challenge.” He adds that the series is “very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming…perhaps [one’s] opinion of oneself or one’s own weaknesses in order to succeed.”

“I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved.  Those four in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of their crew.”

Jon Watt also revealed in the interview that Nick Frost, who you might know from “Shawn Of The Dead” will be providing the voice of a new droid called “SM33”.

“He’s like a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way.   The other thing about him is that he’s the first mate of a mysterious ship.”

Jude Law also shared some insight on working with different types of characters.

“Of course, you were expecting to work with droids and alien species, but you forget that they’re brought to life in front of you by these extraordinary people who have skills, whether it’s puppets or as animatronic experts.  You’re surrounded by them because they’re as much a part of the cast as those who are flesh and blood.”

One of the many things Star Wars fans love about the new Disney+ shows, is how the creators hide little easter eggs throughout and “Skeleton Crew” won’t be any different as Jon Watt teased there are “a lot of easter eggs” to be found. In fact, Ford says that he and Watts had “the fun and the challenge of finding some deep cut [references].”

“I can’t wait.  I mean, even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize.”

This new series is also going to try to entice some new viewers into the Star Wars universe as Jon explained:

“You don’t have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show,.  You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there’s a lot for you.”

It’s been revealed that the new series will debut on Disney+ on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024.

Roger’s Take:  Having seen a sneak peek at this show at last year’s Star Wars Celebration, I’ve been excited about this show for a while since it gave off a 1980s vibe with a mix of “ET” and “Goonies”.   I’m also expecting that the teaser trailer is likely to be revealed next week during the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel at D23.   No doubt this show is going to split audiences, especially as this show feels more skewed to younger audiences (so if you like Ewoks! this might be for you!), rather than a more mature show like “Andor”.
