“Star Wars: Lando” Disney+ Series Showrunner Reacts To Being Replaced
Back at the Investor’s Day in late 2020, Disney announced several new Star Wars projects for Disney+, including a new series called, “Lando”, which will see Donald Glover return as everyone’s favourite scoundrel Lando Calrissian, whom he played in the film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.
It’s been almost three years since that initial announcement, and the project hasn’t seemed to move on in development. But during the promotional tour for Disney’s new film, “Haunted Mansion”, the film’s director Justin Simien, revealed that he had been working on the Disney+ series, but that the project had temporarily paused until they could figure out everybody’s availability.
“I am attached, I think, but I don’t really know. (Laughs.) The last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody’s availability. I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot. I’m not alone in that experience. But I can’t help but wonder, “Am I too Black? Am I too queer? And people just don’t want to say that?” Because it seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown.”
Over the weekend, it was revealed that Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, have signed on to write the new Disney+ series earlier this year, prior to the strikes beginning in May.
But unfortunately, it seems that Disney hadn’t informed Justin Simien that he was no longer working on the Disney+ series, As Justin posted on his Instagram stories that he found out about the Glover brothers writing a new “Lando” series on Instagram at the same time as the rest of us.

With Justin currently out doing all the promotion for “Haunted Mansion”, since all the actors are on strike for better working conditions and pay, for Disney not to inform him that he is no longer working on the project does seem underhanded.
Following Justin’s initial social media post, he then posted a second, with the same image, but instead congratulated the brothers.
“Donald is a national treasure. Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward their way. Can’t wait to see. Rooting for everybody Black.”
With the strikes still underway and with Disney slowing down on how many Star Wars projects it has in development, it might be a while longer until we get any further updates on this new Disney+ show.
But while we wait, you can watch “Solo: A Star Wars Story” now on Disney+.
