Patti LuPone Reveals There Won’t Be A Second Season Of Marvel’s ‘Agatha All Along’
One of last year’s most popular Disney+ Original shows was Marvel’s “Agatha All Along”, which follows the infamous Agatha Harkness, who finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…
The audience responded positively to the show, resulting in the viewership continuing to grow while it was being released. Many fans hope that Marvel will continue the adventures of “Agatha All Along” in a second season.
There was also much speculation that “Agatha All Along” would return for a second season when the award season started, and the show wasn’t listed in the limited series categories. This is more likely due to the rules about characters in limited series not appearing in other shows and since some characters like Agatha and Wiccan will appear in future Marvel shows or films.
Recently, Kathryn Hahn, teased that she’s not done plaing Agatha and name dropped that it’ll likely be in the upcoming “Vision” series, which is going to be the third show in the “WandaVision” trilogy.
In a recent interview on the Sirius XM podcast series “Andy Cohen Live”, Patti LuPone, who played Lilia Calderu in “Agatha All Along”, she was asked about a potential second season, where she confirmed there wouldn’t be:
“There won’t be one. Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season.’”
Patti also explained why Jac Schaeffer has declined to make a second season for “Agatha All Along” the same as when she rejected a Season 2 for “WandaVision.”
“[Schaffer] said, ‘I don’t do second seasons,’. She said, ‘They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”
Marvel has been drastically changing its strategy for how it approaches Disney+ shows; instead of making expensive special effect heavy shows like “Moon Knight” or “Secret Invasion”, it has been focused on creating more budget-friendly shows like “Echo” and “Agatha All Along”. Executives have also stated they want to focus more on multi-season shows, such as “Daredevil: Born Again”, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, and “X-Men ’97”, all of which have new seasons in development.
Roger’s Take: To me, “Agatha All Along” always felt like a one-and-done type of show. It told a fantastic story, but that specific story has been told, which will result in Agatha and Wiccan showing up in future Marvel projects like the upcoming “Vision” series. Plus, she could easily be added as a character in other potential projects.
