Kathryn Hahn Teases She’s Not Done Playing Agatha
This past Sunday evening, at the 82nd annual Golden Globes awards show, Marvel Studios’ Kathryn Hahn was nominated for the first time for her work as Agatha Harkness in the hit Disney+ series, “Agatha All Along”.
In the series, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…
There has been much discussion about the decision to nominate Kathryn in the Best TV actress—comedy or musical category rather than the limited series category, sparking speculation that she will be returning to play Agatha once again.
In the season finale of “Agatha All Along”, we saw Agatha and Wiccan heading out to try to find Billy’s brother, Tommy. Due to the rules regarding the Awards limited series category, a show can’t be nominated in this category if there are plans to have additional seasons or if the characters will appear in other shows. Plus, Kathryn only recently resumed her role as Agatha for the animated series, “What If?” which, again, would make her role unable to be nominated in a limited series category.
Kathryn Hahn took part in a number of interviews while walking the red carpet before the event, where she was asked about returning as Agatha in more Marvel projects, to which she replied:
“Am I personally done with playing this witch? No,”
When pressed on the future of a second season of “Agatha All Along”, Kathryn was quick to downplay if there was another season:
“we’d have to let the powers that be make those decisions”
While in another interview with THR, Kathryn was once again asked about the decision to not be included in the limited series and Kathryn explained that there is another show about “Vision” coming, but she doesn’t know much more.
Roger’s Take: “Agatha All Along” has been a huge hit for Disney+, and continuing the adventures of the characters makes complete sense, especially if the “Vision” show is the third act of the story, which could set up a “Young Avengers/Champions” series down the line. Technically, Kathryn couldn’t be nominated in a limited series category for a recurring character. With the way that “Agatha All Along” ended, I’ve little doubt she is returning, and the fact that she name-drops the “Vision” series increases the chances of her returning then. Plus, we can see how Disney is setting up certain areas of the Marvel Universe to take place as a Disney+ series, compared to the movies being much larger in scope.
