Pablo Trapero To Direct “The Tourist” For 20th Century Studios
Disney’s 20th Century Studios is developing a new film called “The Tourist”, which is based on the first book in an acclaimed series of books by Olen Steinhauer. The first book tells the story of Milo Weaver, who used to be a “tourist” for the CIA—an undercover agent with no home, no identity—but he’s since retired from the field to become a middle-level manager at the CIA’s New York headquarters. He’s acquired a wife, a daughter, and a brownstone in Brooklyn, and he’s tried to leave his old life of secrets and lies behind. However, when the arrest of a long-sought assassin sets off an investigation into one of Milo’s oldest colleagues and exposes new layers of intrigue in his old cases, he has no choice but to go back undercover and find out who’s holding the strings once and for all.
According to Deadline, the film will be directed by Pablo Trapero, who has previously worked on shows including “ZeroZeroZero” and “Echo 3”. Pablo has previously won a Critics Prize at the 1999 Venice International Film Festival for a “Mundo Grua”.
Apparently, 20th Century Studios is looking at this movie as a potential franchise and the book series is already a trilogy.
No other details have been released about this upcoming project and with the actor’s strikes still underway, it might be a while until we find out more about this film, such as who could be cast in it, or when it is likely to be filmed and importantly when it’s released. With Disney looking to refocus films on theatrical releases, it’s likely this is heading to cinemas first, rather than going direct to streaming.
