New Documentary About Freddie Flintoff Coming To Disney+
Disney is developing a brand new documentary with former England cricket player, Freddie Flintoff, which will take look back at Flintoff’s life and cricketing career for England that saw him win two Ashes series, famous cricket showdowns played biennially between England and Australia, and become a national sporting hero.
The show will also follow him through his shift to becoming a television presenter for “A League of Their Own” and BBC’s “Top Gear”.
A major part of this new untitled documentary is going to be the focus on how he has recovered from a massive crash during the filming of “Top Gear” in 2022 that left him with severe facial injuries and broken ribs.
Following that crash, the BBC has axed the popular driving show, “Top Gear” after forty years, and Freddie has been reportedly been paid £9 million as a financial settlement for the accident.
The ninety-minute documentary will be produced by South Shore and directed by John Dower, who has had exclusive access to Freddie for the past year to documentary his recovery and tell his life story.
The original documentary film is executive produced by Andrew Mackenzie and Naomi Templeton for South Shore, Freddie Flintoff and executive produced for Disney+ by Sean Doyle, Executive Director, Unscripted, Disney+.
This is the latest British documentary to be created for Disney+, following “Camden”, “In Vogue: The 90s” and “Save Our Squad”.
No release date for this unnamed documentary has been announced.
Roger’s Take: I became a fan of Freddie while he was making “Top Gear” and was even lucky enough to meet him once while he was doing a photoshoot for a clothing company, so I’m going to be really interested in learning more about his career and, just as importantly, the impact of the crash that ended “Top Gear.” However, this show might have limited attraction outside the United States, but I’m glad the UK team are working on making more content for British audiences.
