More “Miraculous” Specials & New Seasons Coming Soon
Next month, a brand new animated “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir” special called “Miraculous World London: At the Edge of Time” will be on Disney+ in many countries around the world.
The French animated series has become one of the biggest shows in the world, with it airing on the Disney Channel and streaming on Disney+, YouTube and Netflix, making a rare show that can reach a much larger audience.
It’s been ten years since the first season was released, and with five different seasons, along with multiple specials, the franchise isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
During a recent interview with Variety, Miraculous Corp’s CEO Andy Yeatman revealed some new details on the franchise’s future. In addition to the upcoming London special, they’ve previously made animated specials set in Shanghai, New York, and Paris. It was confirmed that there will be new animated specials set in different cities around the world, including Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, with the Japanese special coming out in 2025. There will also be more theatrical releases, plus they are also developing a live-action series.
“So Tokyo being the first one, we have one planned for Rio, Brazil, and then several other locations that will be like characters in the show,”
Since the show began ten years ago, technology has continued to evolve. Andy revealed that the show will undergo a revamp with new designs for the sixth and seventh seasons, which are currently in production. These new seasons will be produced using the Unreal Engine, so they will look a little more modern.
“We’re giving the character designs a makeover”.
There will also be new characters, such as Lady Dragon and Stellar Force introduced.
“We think there’s a lot of room to expand further in different areas that we haven’t tapped in yet. We’ll be introducing brand new characters that the creative team has developed and in some cases have created and playing around with internally for many years.
The new characters “will probably meet each other. You might imagine Ladybug helping to introduce (Lady Dragon and Stellar Force), but there’ll be new characters with their own team, their own friends, their own crushes, set in their own cities, with their own superpowers, set in different iconic locations.”
Roger’s Take: Keeping the show fresh is vital, not just to keep existing fans engaged but also, more importantly, to attract new kids, who might find the older seasons harder to watch.
