Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming Marvel film, “Madam Web”,  which takes place in an alternative multiverse and is a standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present.

And Sony has also released a featurette explaining who Madame Web is and why she is so different to how she appears in the comic books (she’s a very old woman in a wheelchair).

The film also stars Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott.

“Madame Web” is directed by SJ Clarkson, who has written the screenplay with Claire Parker.  The film has been produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and executive producer by Adam Merims and Claire Parker.

This movie will be part of the Sony Spider-Man universe, which also includes films like “Morbius”, “Venom” and the upcoming film, “Kraven The Hunter”.

“Madame Web” will be released in cinemas soon, and since it’s a Sony movie, following its theatrical release, in the United States, it will go to Netflix for its streaming pay one window for eighteen months, before eventually going to Disney+ for its Pay 2 window, so it’s likely to be a few years until we see it on Disney+.  Internationally, it might be years until Sony licenses it to Disney to go along with other Sony “Spider-Man” films.
