“Glee” Coming Back For A New Season On Disney+ & Hulu
One of Ryan Murphy’s most popular shows was “Glee”, a musical comedy set in a high school about a group of ambitious and talented young adults who dream of stardom, but struggle with life in the real world.
Disney has officially announced it will bring back one of 20th Television’s most popular drama shows, “Glee”, for a new series, with plans for it to be a revival, and it will be coming to Disney+ and Hulu, with a full series order.
The original series ran for six seasons, debuted on FOX in 2009, and made stars out of Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele.
There has been talk of a reboot/revival from Ryan Murphy for years, with rumours of him looking to bring back the show in 2000, with him also talking about a revival while promoting his new show, “The Shards” earlier this year:
“That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.’
Since then, Ryan has finished the script for the first episode and said he has been in contact with “around ten of the original cast members” from the original show; however, it’s important to note that no casting for the new version has been announced.
Bringing back “Glee” for a new generation could be a great addition to Disney+ and Hulu, as they look for shows that can appeal to teenagers and families. The upside of a show like “Glee” is that introducing a new class of characters can rejuvenate the series, while sprinkling in a few older characters as mentors/teachers could link the new and old shows seamlessly.
Unfortunately, no other details, such as who will be starring in it, who will be producing or directing it, have been revealed. Nor have any details been revealed on when production is set to begin or when we might see it released on Disney+ and Hulu.
While we wait for the new version of “Glee”, you can watch the previous six seasons on Hulu and Disney+ now.
