Way back on Disney+ Day in 2021, Marvel Studios announced it would be creating a brand new spin-off from the popular “What If?” series called “Marvel Zombies”.

The animated series from Marvel Studios is set in an alternative multiverse, where a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge. Executive Producer Bryan Andrews is directing the series, which is written by Executive Producer Zeb Wells.

During a Marvel Animation panel at the D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, attendees were shown a sneak peek at the upcoming animated project.   In the clip, fans get to see Shang-Chi and Katy in the city, which is overrun by zombies, with a squad of helicopters surrounding them blowing the zombies away.  Shang-Chi’s father is in one of the helicopters, but when he jumps out to help, Shang-Chi is bitten on the arm by Zombie, so in order to save his son’s life, he gives Shang-Chi the Ten-Rings, though his arm still remains rotten.  The father is then killed by the zombies.  A second clip was also shown, set years later, when the city became a wasteland, and they were involved in a high-speed chase that was described as being like something out of Mad Max.

It was also confirmed that the series will consist of just four episodes and will be released soon on Disney+, but no release date has yet been announced.    The other good news for Zombies fans, is that this animated series will be Rated MA, aka its just for adults and will feature plenty of Zombie blood and guts being spilled!

Previously, Iman Vellani confirmed she would be providing the voice for her Ms Marvel character in the series, but it hasn’t been confirmed if Simu Liu and Awkwafina will be doing the same for their characters.

It was also revealed during the Marvel Animation panel that “What If?” would be coming to an end after three seasons, so I wouldn’t be surprised if “Zombies” is released afterwards, just ahead of “Avengers: Secret Wars” being released, which is expected to close off the multiverse saga.

Roger’s Take:  The Zombies episode of “What If? was my favourite from both seasons, and this is certainly a show I want to watch.  I love that Marvel Studios is being allowed to spread its creative wings a little and deliver a mature show for adults!

While we wait for “Marvel Zombies” to arrive, you can find the first two seasons of “What If?” on Disney+ now.
